The victory of the People's Partnership on May 24 2010 in Trinidad & Tobago was to be followed by another trouncing of the People's National Movement in the Local Government elections on July 26. Under the leadership of Kamla Persad-Bissessar a fresh breath of unity, freedom and hope blew across the islands. KAMLA: Ascent Of A Woman is the culmination of fifty-five weeks of a diligent recording of the political history of this Caribbean paradise.

About the Author

Rhona Baptiste, a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, has been teaching in Mainland China since 1998. Her background as a Science teacher and later as coordinator of CADEC (Christian Action for Development in the Eastern Caribbean) Women's Desk provided valuable insight into her Caribbean region. Later she teamed up with her husband and embarked on several adventures not least of which is living in China for the past twelve years. She returned to her native land in March 2010 in time for the historic 'gentle revolution' that saw the calling of an early election by Patrick Manning of the ruling People's National Movement and its replacement by the People's Partnership led by the first woman Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Her published works include: Trini Talk - Dictionary of Words and Proverbs of Trinidad and Tobago; Second Wife and Other Stories from China; Do you like Chinese Food?; Trees and Flowering Plants of South China; and Mandarin Ducks - and they lived happily ever after?
