Staff Reviews

I absolutely LOVED this story! There's a murder at Windsor Castle in the weeks leading up to Queen Elizabth II's diamond jubilee. With the help of her new assistant private secretary, Rozie, the Queen sets out to identify the killer. Of course, one can't just hit the streets and start interrogating suspects -- not when one is the much beloved, but often underestimated monarch! The Queen needs a trusted sidekick and Rozie learns she's only the most recent APS to be secretly recruited by her majesty for some off-the-record, "other duties as assigned." This is a smart, well-written, fast-paced murder mystery. Rozie is ex-military, strong, brave, quick-thinking, and she's a fully fledged character in her own right. Queen Elizabeth is portrayed as smart and self-aware. She knows how others, especially the man-splainers at MI5, see her and she uses that to her advantage. Part Ms. Marple and part Jack Reacher, this is the first in a new series and I cannot wait to see who QE2 and her butt-kicking girl squad take down next!

“I love the idea of Queen Elizabeth sleuthing behind the scenes! As charmingly and convincingly portrayed by SJ Bennett, the Queen is an astute observer whose decades of experience serve her well in this role. When a Russian pianist is found dead at Windsor Castle, the new head of MI5 muddles the case and makes the mistake of treating the Queen like his doddering granny. It’s up to the Queen to secretly and skillfully line up the pieces of the puzzle for MI5 to solve.”
